1986-89 MITSUBISHI STARION |
1. First to remove the shift boot you just unscrew the shift knob. Unscrew it counter-clockwise.
2. The shift boot is not attached to any thing there is a metal rectangle brace made into the boot. Just pull this metal brace to one side and pull up the bottom of the boot.
3. Once that is out of the center console pull it straight up to revel a metal wire twisted around the top of the shifter to hold the top of the boot in place. Cut this wire and the boot will come off. |
|
4. Cut and remove the wire from the bottom of the stock boot. Slide it into the fold in the bottom of the new shift boot.
Alternatively, you could take a drycleaners' wire coat hanger, cut a length of it off and form it to the shape of the wire in the stock boot, then feed it into the leather boot. This will allow you to retain the stock boot intact. |
|
5. Take your time and working the base of the boot from side to side it should slide down over the shifter and into the center console easily. Re-isntall your shift knob. |

Useful tip You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking. |
