shift boot installation guide

1. We start by pulling the upper trim piece off by pressing down with our thumbs...

2. ... and lifting with our fingers in these corners.

3. The shift knob also has to come off. In order to release the shift boot from the transmission stick you have to slide the retainer clip off the top of the shift lever.

4. The clip is spring loaded so take care.

5. Then you press down on the trim that surrounds the boot and you separate it from the larger dash piece.

6. A little bit of wiggling and you can get the whole center trim piece to release.

7. Manipulate it around carefully.

8. Then flip it over and remove one plug.

9. Once it's completely released from the car this gives you full access to the few push clips holding the shift boot on which you need to remove. There may be staples holding the leather shift boot to the retaining ring that you have to remove and then the shift boot should be free. Installation is reverse steps.

10. To remove the manual handbrake boot you first have to remove the front shift boot (see steps above) and trim area to allow you to pop the front of the center console trim apart.

11. Starting up front lift the center console trim until it pops out of its two clips

12. Sliding your hand back lift up on the trim next to the cup holders and the whole piece should become unclipped and lift up.

13. Once the whole piece is free you will need to reach under and unplug one plug from the front traction mode selector switch.

14. Remove two plugs from the rear USB and charge port.

15. Once all three plugs have been unclipped you then slide the handbrake boot up and off the end of the handbrake. It takes a little bit of work but once you get the handbrake boot to slide off the handbrake the whole unit will come free which gives you access to the back clip that hold down the handbrake boot trim. Pushing those six clips out releases the handbrake boot and allows you to remove the staples holding the boot on and completely remove the handbrake boot. Installation requires reappling staples (or replacing them with glue) to hold the boot back in place on the handbrake retaining ring. Re-assembly is reverse of removal steps.
