shift boot installation guide

1. This is what you start with.

2. Unscrew the shift knob counter-clockwise.

3. Pull up gently by hand on base of shifter until it comes loose.

4. Carefully, pull plate up. Do not pull all the way off until cigarette lighter wiring is disconnected from the outlet.

5. Once off, flip the plate over to view the underside. You will notice that the stock boot is held in by several plastic clips. CAREFULLY and GENTLY pull these clips back and pull the wire up on clip at a time. Too much pressure could cause the clips to break, so I must stress that you take your time.

6. When the stock boot is completely removed, remove the wire from it (it requires cutting the old boot - so you might want to replace the wire with another one. A drycleaners' coat hangers use the perfect grade of wire to create a new frame from. Get a coat hanger, cut off the twisted part, form a wire the shape of the original one and cut off the excess). Feed the wire through the fold in the bottom of the new boot.

Now begin placing your high quality leather boot in to the clips that held the stock boot. Start by putting one side in at a time. It is a tight fit, so once again take your time and do not apply too much pressure. The clips should secure the shift boot base wire as you push it in to place.

7. Once the boot is fully in to the plate you can start putting the plate back in to its place. Installation is reverse of removal. Make sure to reconnect the outlet wiring and feed the shift rod through your new boot.

8. Screw your shift knob back on. Enjoy!

Useful tip

You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking.
