SUBARU BRZ / SCION FR-S / TOYOTA GT86 CENTER ARMREST COVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This is an installation manual for custom cover for factory accessory center armrest available as an option for EDM/JDM cars.
1) Remove the lid from the armrest assembly - first pry the screw caps with a tiny screwdriver, unscrew 6 screws holding the lid. Then remove factory vinyl cover by prying the staples (dozens of them) with a screwdriver
2) Apply glue, first to approx. 1/2 of the armrest lid base, let it cure a bit and place the padding foam on the plastic part tunnel pressing it hard. Let the glue bond for a few minutes and proceed the same way with the remaining part.
3) Once the glue bonds, apply the glue to the top of the foam and the sides of the armrest lid base.
4) Flip the sides of the cover upwards, put the leather cover onto the foam, aligning its outline to the lid shape and pressing hard against the foam. Stretch the sides of the cover towards the bottom and press them hard against the sides to make the glue bond there.
5) Proceed the same way towards the rear of the armrest.
6) Glue the edges of the cover to the bottom inside of the lid - apply the glue to the leather and press the leather against the lid - screwdriver is a useful tool to press the leathe ragainst inner corners and make sure the glue bonds there.
7) Make some V-shaped and U-shaped cuts around the curves of the armrest to prevent the leather from wrinkling there, otherwise you'll have the excess of leather in one areas and too little of it in the other making leather difficult to lay smoothly.
8) Then make V-shaped cuts in the corners of the latch void - do not cut too much in order not to make the cuts visible - better cut too little and then extend the cuts. Apply the glue and fold the leather to glue the it to the inside of the void. Press the leather until the glue bonds firmly.
9) Install the covered lid back onto the assembly, screw it properly, put caps on screws and
ENJOY YOUR NEW LEATHER COVER :-)
Useful tip
You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking.
