1984-89 TOYOTA 4RUNNER |
Tools needed for job: 1 Phillips #2 screwdriver 1 Pair Diagonal cutters 1 Razor knife
1. Remove shifter knobs by turning counter clockwise. |
2. There are 4 screws to remove the console. 2 on each side. |
3. Remove console by lifting from front first then sliding it up and over the gear shifters. |
4. Remove old shift boots by pulling the ring away from tabs on one side and then slide out of the other. |
5. Remove old shifter boot by cutting off of the metal ring. |
6. The metal ring is tack welded in the middle of the rear of the frame. You will need to break those welds by rotating back and forth. They will come apart fairly easily. |
7. You will need to cut approx. 1” from the metal frame on one side or the other. Shift boot is pre hemmed so you will have to work your way through the hem. Starting at the right rear corner is the best place. |
8. This process will take about 30 min. to work your way all the way around. Some bending is required, but when you are done it can be bent back to where it needs to be. |
9. Installation of the completed boot is a simple reversal of the removal process listed above. Snap back into console, slide down over shifters screw back in, and replace shifter knobs. |

CONGRATULATIONS - YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED YOUR NEW LEATHER BOOTS!
Useful tip You have installed a product made out of genuine leather. As you know, to maintain a leather product in good condition, you should take care of it. We suggest occasionally (every 4-6 week for example) applying some leather conditioner/UV protector to keep your leather from drying up in the sun and cracking. |
